A House for the Moon

This body of work investigates the peripheral field of space we live in and fill. The work focuses on dissecting moments in which hold value and yet pass without a second glance or abandon. As we stare out of our windows, what are we trying to reach for, and, or discover? It lingers on the tips of our fingers: that moment, object, or feeling that we can’t quite seem to grasp. Windows have become portals into uncertainty and uncharted territory. Our views are abstracted by the curtains, revealing shadows in constant flux. We wait. The world has become abstracted, yet recognizable. Time has continued while we’ve been wondering, and longing, in isolation.

THE EXHIBITION: A HOUSE FOR THE MOON

“A House for the Moon” was on view from September 1–September 26, 2021 at Fountain Street Gallery, Boston, MA. The work on view investigated daily routines, personal connections, and relationships with surroundings. The work was inspired not only by the brokenness of our social connections and ties to the natural world, but also by the beauty of remnant, left-over, and once-living things, like roots of felled trees, pieces of abandoned toys, a lonely sight through a bare window, an empty ritual once full of humor and consolation. Through their explorations in various mediums, Tatiana Flis and Joel Moskowitz exposed yearnings for a remembered and still-hoped-for world, just out of reach.
